Ironclad star Angharad Griffiths launches singing career with online single
• Mar 6 2011

AN ANGEL-VOICED musician set to appear in upcoming medieval thriller Ironclad is hoping to bypass the studios to stardom – by releasing her single online for 49p.
Bubbly brunette Angharad Griffiths is planning to launch her debut track Always There directly from her own website as she sets out on her showbiz career.
The 20-year-old actress and singer, from Newport, co-wrote the tune – which celebrates the bond between children and parents – with guitarist dad Dave, who accompanies her at gigs.
Angharad recorded the track at Raglan’s Castle Studios, where it was produced by former Asia keyboard player Geoff Downes.

“It was pretty cool recording that so now I’m going to try and get it out there,” she said.
The chilled-out singer, who lists Joni Mitchell, Mumford & Sons and Kings of Leon as her favourite artists, said: “I’m not necessarily looking to hit the charts – I don’t look at it as being famous.
“I just want to be successful with it and be known for my music, and hopefully through acting – not one of the people in the magazines all the time but to do my career and be respected for that.”
The University of Glamorgan third year student plans to release an album in the autumn.
And she told Wales on Sunday she wants to pursue a career taking in acting and singing when she finishes her degree this year.

The performance and media student hit the silver screen on Friday, appearing alongside Rome actor James Purefoy and Mackenzie Crook, star of The Office, in Ironclad. The Warner Bros film was shot entirely in Wales and tells the story of a group of Templar knights defending Rochester Castle against villain King John.
The final year student was cast as a maid servant to the leading lady in the film, played by Brokeback Mountain beauty Kate Mara.
Angharad said: “It was amazing being on set with actors like that, it was crazy. It was definitely intimidating but part of me was thinking, ‘I’m here to do it’ and just doing it to my best.”
And she said life behind the scenes at film shoots was far removed from the star-studded world of Hollywood red carpets.
“On set there was just mud up to your knees and it was absolutely freezing. It’s definitely not glamorous.”
But she did get up close and personal with some of the big names on set because of the chilly conditions. She said: “In between shoots we were given big Puffa jackets to put on because it was so cold. Kate Mara and I were sharing a coat whilst waiting for a scene to start shooting.”
Angharad said stars like Paul Giamatti and Sir Derek Jacobi “were really down-to-earth and easy to get on with”.

You can listen to a sample of Angharad’s single, Always There, at http://www.walesonline.co.uk/multimedia and purchase it for 49p at www.angharadmusic.com when it is released on March 29

Nice article in the paper today, surprised to see it on the front page , Exciting few weeks ahead. x

Film role and debut single for CCI student Angharad – all in the same month

March 1, 2011

Most students would be content with just appearing in a major Hollywood produced film, but third year CCI BA (Hons) Performance and Media student Angharad Griffiths is also releasing her debut single in the same month.

Angharad, 20 from Newport, appears in Warner Bros’ new medieval action thriller Ironclad, which is released on 4th March. The film was shot entirely in Wales, and tells the story of a group of Templar knights defending Rochester Castle against a tyrannical King John. Ironclad features performances from James Purefoy, Paul Giamatti, Brian Cox, Kate Mara, Jason Flemying and Derek Jacobi.

Angharad was lucky enough to meet several of the famous names in the cast. “They were all really nice” said Angharad. “It was freezing during filming. I remember sharing a coat with Kate Mara, and at one point James Purefoy was very gentlemanly and lent me his jacket!”

Later in March Angharad will be releasing her debut single ‘Always There’. Angharad recorded the song at Raglan’s Castle Studios. Geoff Downes, former keyboard player with Asia, The Buggles and Yes, produced the track. The single is about appreciating the bond between children and parents – which is particularly fitting, as Angharad regularly performs with her guitarist father Dave.

‘Always There’ will be available to download from Angharad’s website from 29th March for 49 pence, and Angharad plans to follow it up with an album in the autumn.

Musically, Angharad is influenced by classic folk artists like Joni Mitchell as well as more modern bands including Mumford and Sons and Kings of Leon. Singing is her first love, but she’s keen to develop her acting abilities. “I’ve been singing for a long time so I’m used to it – I find acting more of a challenge” said Angharad. “But that’s why I’m working so hard at it. I want to be just as comfortable doing both.”

So how does Angharad manage to successfully juggle her course, music and acting careers?

“I try my best to keep them as separate as possible. It can get very busy sometimes, but my Dad is always a really big help.”

Angharad has also appeared in a TV commercial for Ballistic Blue party invitations, and will perform at the Raglan and Devauden music festivals this summer.
